Meet Megan

A little about me.
Hello & welcome! I hold a Master of Education in Counselor Education with a concentration in College Counseling and Student Development from North Carolina State University. Prior to my work as a therapist, I worked in higher education for over a decade where I cultivated a strong passion for working closely with individuals to address their unique challenges and needs.
Following the completion of my graduate studies, I continued my work in higher education focusing on assisting individuals in recovery from substance use disorders through program and community development. I later shifted to working in a short-term stabilization inpatient psychiatric hospital, where I gained extensive hands-on experience working with individuals and groups across both inpatient and outpatient settings.
In addition to my work in these environments, I began offering individual therapy on a part-time basis, which allowed me to further refine my skills and build meaningful connections with clients. In 2022, I made the transition to focus exclusively on individual therapy, driven by my commitment to helping clients navigate their mental health challenges and achieve their personal goals. I am currently dually licensed and offer teletherapy services to adults in North Carolina and South Carolina.

I enjoy collaborating with individuals of diverse racial, gender, cultural, and spiritual backgrounds and provide a safe place for the LGBTQIA+/QTBIPOC/BIPOC communities.

On a more personal note, I am originally from Austin, TX, but have lovingly called Raleigh, NC home for much of my life. I am a childfree elder millennial who loves to read, get lost in nature, crochet, and travel whenever circumstances permit.
Therapeutic
Approach
For me, therapy is a collaborative and adaptive process. I believe in the importance of understanding your unique story and what you hope to achieve through our work together. Building a strong therapeutic relationship is the foundation of meaningful change, and I aim to create a safe, empowering space where you can explore and grow at your own pace.

I integrate humanistic, psychoanalytic, and cognitive-behavioral approaches, allowing us to explore how your life circumstances are shaped by societal, cultural, and systemic factors. I am deeply committed to honoring the experiences of marginalized and underrepresented communities, recognizing how identities are influenced by culture, race, gender, class, and more. This perspective informs my approach to therapy, ensuring that our work together is culturally competent, inclusive, and relevant to your specific needs.

The impacts of systemic issues, including capitalistic frameworks, are central to my work. I understand that mental well-being cannot be separated from the broader socio-political context in which we exist. Capitalism and other systems of power can have profound effects on our mental health, shaping our sense of self-worth, relationships, and ability to thrive. We will explore how these factors may be influencing your experience and work toward fostering resilience and empowerment in a world that often undervalues certain people and communities.

I am EMDR-trained, using this approach in conjunction with ongoing psychotherapy to address developmental and interpersonal trauma, as well as complex PTSD. My practice is also influenced by Internal Family Systems (IFS), which gently invites us to connect with the different parts of ourselves that have been shaped by trauma, allowing for healing, integration, and self-compassion.

Together, we will uncover and address the deeper layers of your experience, fostering personal growth and healing while also acknowledging and working within the broader context of your life.
